1) Get on Social Media

Social media is important for local businesses as well. Facebook is actually a great social media network for local businesses. You can encourage your customers to leave a positive review on your Facebook page. Then promote this positive feedback to gain more customers. It’s basically like the digital version of word of mouth. Another great tool is Facebook ads. You can run an ad for as little as $5 a day. Small Biz Trends states, “Advertising on social sites like Facebook can help you increase your reach and gain an audience for your business online”.
Facebook ads even allow you to target customers in any geographic location you want. You can even have customers book appointments, call you and make reservations through your Facebook page. Instagram and Facebook are great places to showcase photos of your business too. If your customers have any questions or comments they can just send a message to your Facebook.

2) Post Often on Social Media

I cannot emphasize this point enough. It’s very important to post to your social media pages regularly. I have seen so many local businesses fail to do this. They will have a Facebook page but post like once a week. Then they wonder why they don’t have any likes or followers. What you put into social media is what you get out of it.

If you have no idea how often you should look at your competitors. Check out their social media pages to find out how often they post and when. Definitely, post more than once a week on any social media network. According to Small Biz Trends, you have to actually engage people on those sites. In order to do that you have to post regularly.

3) Have Your Business Address, Directions, and Contact Methods on Your Site

This seems like a no-brainer but many local businesses owners fail to do this. How will customers contact you if your contact information isn’t there? How will they find your business if the address isn’t listed? Make it easy for customers to find your business by posting the directions. Post multiple forms of contact, not just a phone number.

4) Utilize Local Listings

I am not talking about your standard Yellow page listing either. What I mean is use sites like Yelp and Google. You can claim or add your business listing on Google. Adding or claiming your business on Google makes it visible on search results. There is so much you can do with it. You can add your website, add pictures, customers can leave reviews, call your business, and more. The best part of all it’s free! You can create a business page on Yelp for free too!

5) Utilize Email Marketing

Start collecting customer emails. Email marketing is one of the best ways to grow your business. According to Constant Contact for every $1 spent on email marketing you can expect an average return of $38. 61% of customers state that they enjoy receiving promotional emails weekly. Email marketing doesn’t have to be expensive either. You can create an account and collect up to 1000 emails for free on MailChimp. Just be sure to obey the Can-Spam act when you start sending out emails.
