How to Increase Your Twitter Engagement

Are you having a hard time getting your followers to like, retweet, and comment on your tweets? I
think a lot of people have this problem when they are just starting out on Twitter. I know I had this problem for sure. I was getting followers but no engagement. I couldn’t understand why? I learned that I was making simple mistakes that caused me to not get any engagement. I am going to share with you  How to increase your Twitter engagement

Table of Contents

  • Have a good content mix
  • Engage with your audience
  • Don’t just retweet
  • Pin your tweets
  • Conclusion

Have a good content mix

A mistake I made on Twitter was posting the same type of content all the time. For me, I was only sharing articles. That’s it. Doing that did get me, followers. But I wasn’t getting engagement. There is no point in having followers if they don’t like, retweet or comment on your tweets. It’s basically like talking to yourself.
No one is paying attention to you. You don’t want that when you are trying to grow your brand, sell your products, or services. Potential social media marketing employers won’t hire you if you don’t have engaging tweets on your account.
Tweeting the same type of content all the time bores your followers. That’s why they don’t engage. You want to have a good content mix on your Twitter account. This means tweeting videos, pictures, memes, gifs, infographics, etc.
The goal is to grab your followers’ attention through your tweets. Make sure it is relevant to your niche as well. If you are a mommy blogger share a funny parenting video. If you are a marketer share a link to a free webinar.

Engage with your audience

Engagement works both ways. How do you expect your audience to engage with you when you don’t do the same with them? In other words, find ways to interact with them. It doesn’t have to be hard or complicated. It may seem like it at first.
In the beginning, I had no clue how to do this. But the more I watched other users with high Twitter engagement the more ideas I got. Here are a few ways to do this:
  • Conduct a Twitter Poll
  • Ask your followers a question
  • Reply to one of your followers’ tweets
  • Respond back if they direct message you
Let your followers know that there is a human being behind the account. If they reply to one of your tweets reply back or like the reply. If they direct message you respond back. Start looking at their tweets and reply. Think of it as digital small talk. Don’t just tweet content at them.

Don’t just retweet

Just retweeting can get you followers but not engagement. Retweeting someone else’s tweet will get them the engagement, not you. I think the best sure-fire way to get engagement is through your own tweets. I am not saying you shouldn’t ever retweet. Just don’t do it 24/7, 365 days a year. Be original with your tweets.
Instead of retweeting someone else’s GIF create your own. Then tweet it with a clever caption. The same applies to memes, images, and any graphics. Instead of retweeting someone else’s meme find one online then tweet it out. If you do retweet post it with a question, or comment. Be sure to include a hashtag. Don’t retweet without adding something to the conversation.

Pin your tweets

This is something I just recently learned how to do on Twitter. So I just had to mention it. If you want your followers to see a particular tweet just pin it to your profile. Pinning your tweets keep them at the top of your page. You can do this for free.
If you want them to sign up to your email list, webinar, watch your YouTube video, read an article/blog post you wrote pin it to your profile. It will stay at the top until you take it down. According to CoSchedule pinning a tweet with an eye-catching image will boost retweets by 35%. If you include a link engagement will boost by 86%.

Conclusion

If you aren’t getting engagement on Twitter don’t worry, You aren’t alone. I think Twitter is one of the trickiest platforms to get engagement on. With so many people tweeting out content it’s easy for your tweets to get unnoticed. Especially since you aren’t the only one that your followers are following. You have to be a bit more creative to get their attention. With the tips, I mentioned you are on your way to higher Twitter engagement.
