In order to make a living selling on Etsy, it comes down to selling the right product at the right price. Then selling enough of it to live off.
Is it hard selling on Etsy?
In my opinion, yes, it is. But some people think it isn’t. Everyone has a different experience. How hard it is depends on what you’re selling.
I know quite a few people that had successful shops that closed them. They closed them because of customers, or just got burned out.
But those same people that closed them moved their products to their own website. It just depends on what you’re selling.
Common Mistakes Etsy Sellers Make
Just picking a niche isn’t enough to make money on Etsy. Sometimes you have to dig deeper than that. For example, if you decide to sell jewelry you need to decide what kind.
If you really want to make it on Etsy you have to know what your target audience wants. It sounds cliche but it’s true. You need to know who you want to sell to. Then study your competition. Look at the top stores in your niche.

How to see what sells on Etsy
There are a few ways to find best-selling products on Etsy. One way to do this is to use Etsy. You can go to Etsy. Type in what you’re thinking of selling. Then just look for anything with the best-seller tag. This tag lets you know that this item is a best-seller for that shop.
Another way is by using the Etsy search bar. Just click in the search bar and the most popular item keywords will appear.
My favorite way to figure this out is by using Etsy Hunt. It’s a free Etsy tool that shows you Etsy’s best-selling items.
How to figure out what sells on Etsy using Etsy Hunt
Etsy Hunt is my absolute favorite Etsy tool. It gives you data that Etsy doesn’t. Yes, you can find best-selling items on Etsy. But Etsy won’t show you how many copies of that item sell each week.
You won’t find that information anywhere. Etsy Hunt shows you the sales volume of each item. Sales volume is very important. Just because someone has something listed doesn’t mean people are buying.
Sales volume is the definitive proof that an item sells all the time. That’s what you want. You want an item to sell each week.
This is the best way to figure out what to sell. I use this all the time. I have the browser extension installed. I don’t make anything new unless I know it’ll sell.

Use the Browser Extension
Etsy hunt has a browser extension. It’s available for Chrome and Microsoft Edge. What I love about this extension is that when you scroll through Etsy, you’ll see sales data. It will show the sales data of some of the listings. You’ll see how much they sold of the item within the last 7 days. You’ll even see how much they sold of the item total. It shows this data below the listing.
