Driving traffic from Instagram is possible. You don’t need the swipe-up feature in order to do it. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great feature. Congrats to you if you have it. But many of us, myself included, don’t have it.
The problem is you need to get 10,000 followers in order to use it. Getting that many is tricky. The best way I’ve found is by using a free tool by Tailwind called Smart.bio.Â

What is Smart.Bio?
Instagram only allows one link in your bio. Smart.bio is a tool that allows you to add more links to your bio. You can create your landing page with it. It gives you the freedom to add clickable links to your IG posts.
Instead of having your blog URL, website URL, or shop URL you’ll have your Smart.bio link. When people click on it they’ll see multiple links. Smart.bio even enables you to make your Instagram posts clickable.
When you use Tailwind for Instagram you can publish your links live. This means that your links are published with your posts at once. You don’t have to go back and add them later. You can customize your buttons to match your branding too!
How I Use Smart.bio
I use Smart.bio to help me drive traffic to my blog and Etsy shop. The picture above is a screenshot of my account. This is proof that I do use it. As you can see I have my main blog link, Etsy shop link, and a few affiliate links. But I also have clickable IG posts at the bottom.
Thanks to Smart.bio I was able to promote specific items in my Etsy shop. The problem with just posting a URL to the home page people have to search for what they’re looking for. Whereas with Smart.bio they’re taken directly to it.
The work is done for them. I can promote specific blog posts too. I’ve only had Smart.bio for a month. My click-through rate is around 68%. Which is pretty good. I haven’t been posting to IG lately or actively promoting my account.

If I didn’t have Smart.bio I wouldn’t be able to promote multiple things. I would have to choose only one URL to permanently drive traffic to. Changing the link in your bio all the time is a hassle.
How to Use Smart.bio
There are many ways to use Smart.bio. Plus there are many ways to drive traffic to your bio. For example, you can use it to showcase your most popular Etsy items.
You can use it to highlight your best outfits if you’re a fashion blogger. If you’re a food blogger you can use it to showcase your best recipes.
Instagram is a visual platform. People respond to images way more than text. According to Smart bird social posts with images produce 650% higher engagement than text-only posts. Why do you think Instagram is so popular? People love images!
For Smart.bio to be effective, you will have to put in some work. You’re going to have to give people a reason to click on the link in bio. People won’t know what you have to offer unless you say so.
Put a call-to-action at the end of your IG post telling them to click on it. Sharing your post to IG stories is another great way to promote posts.
Make sure your post image/graphic is on point. Use presets to lighten your image, use a premade IG template, and create posts you’re audience resonates with.
Create posts they can relate to or get useful info from. Of course, use hashtags! Tailwind for Instagram will suggest hashtags based on your post.
Another useful trick to promote your posts is pinning them to Pinterest! Many Instagrammers already do this. It makes sense because Pinterest is a visual platform too.
